Blog #67: Althea Petal Velvet Powder Review

Hello hello Beauties! So after a looooong hiatus, this busy momma's back into blogging (translation: my Baby Katey's sound asleep). Anyhow, a lot of things had happened in my life during my absence. First, my Katey just turned 1! It was a stormy celebration but my cutie pie was happy throughout so that's all that matters. Second, I just found out I'm 2 months pregnant. Two months pregnant and my baby just turned 1! How crazy is that??? But hey, a blessing's a blessing. :D

So yeah, my life's been on a whirlwind as of late, hence, me missing blogging a lot. Good thing Althea Korea sent me a package last July and what do you know, it's their first ever product!

Althea Korea's first ever product, the Althea Petal Velvet Powder

PACKAGING:

  • I'm in looove with the packaging. It comes in this really slick transparent pot and a cute pink cap.

  • what really gets me is the simple design of the pot with the signature A logo of Althea

Its simplicity is its main appeal

FRAGRANCE:

  • it has a bit of a strong scent that resembles that of a flower which I think is where the PETAL on its name came from

  • it can be a bit overwhelming when you apply it at first but you'll get used to it

TEXTURE:

  • it's a finely-milled powder that comes in white when applied but adheres to the skin tone

  • it feels lighter on the skin than the Banila Co Prime Primer Finish Powder but not as light as the Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder

  • for me, it's a decent setting powder

FINISH:

  • it has a matte, velvety finish

Excuse my selfie haha

So above's my face without the Althea Petal Velvet Powder. I color corrected using the 3CE Face Tuning Palette, did my brows and put on a tint. Other than those, no more. As you can see, my face is pretty shiny.

And here's my face after applying the Althea Petal Velvet Powder in one coat.

`

TADA! It definitely mattified my skin and the coverage is just amazing. It is, however, a bit chalky and you can see that some parts of my skin show caking. It's not that serious though. Just put on a light hand when applying coz the puff picks up some serious powder. A light tap of the puff can help control that. ;)

LONGEVITY:

  • the powder stayed pretty well until the third hour. The fourth hour was decent but come fifth hour, the high points of my face, particularly my nose and forehead, started getting oily.

  • by the eight hour, I needed to reach for it for a retouch

OVER-ALL RATING: 4/5

It's much cheaper than the Banila Co Prime Primer FInish Powder and on the same range as the same range as the Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder and does the function of the two. I recommend this to beginners and to those who have super oily skin. A very good oil control powder. :)
